About Sophia Buddenhagen Surf and Lifestyle Art SoBudd

Sophia Buddenhagen is a Houston-based artist and a graduate of the University of Houston, where she earned her BFA. Her work is characterized by vibrant, playful paintings that bring energy and joy to any space. Sophia’s style blends bold colors, patterns, and layers of text and imagery, creating eye-catching, abstract pieces that evoke a sense of movement and life. Inspired by her extensive travels and

a deep love for nature, skateboarding and surfing, her artwork captures the beauty and diversity of the world around her.

Having lived in places like Egypt, West Africa, Europe, and the West Indies, Sophia’s nomadic upbringing has shaped her artistic perspective, making her work a visual journey rather than something rooted in one culture or location. This global experience allows her to approach each piece with a unique lens, blending influences from various cultures and environments.

Sophia’s artistic process is fueled by experimentation with mixed media, including acrylics, watercolors, ink, spray paint, and oil paint sticks. She enjoys layering these materials to create texture and depth, allowing each piece to unfold organically. Her work is meant to inspire creativity, evoke emotion, and encourage viewers to reflect on their own experiences while fostering a deeper connection to the world and the people around them.
